Govt cuts petrol levy by Rs40, raises diesel levy by Rs19

ISLAMABAD: The government of Pakistan has revised petroleum levy rates following a cut in petrol price and diesel rate, said officials.

According to sources, the levy on petrol has been reduced by Rs40.49 per litre. With the adjustment, the new levy on petrol is set at Rs66.25 per litre.

For diesel, the levy goes the other way. It has been increased by Rs19.71 per litre, taking the total to Rs72.97 per litre.

The levy will remain unchanged for other products. Kerosene will carry a levy of Rs20.36 per litre, while light diesel oil will be taxed at Rs15.84 per litre.

Petrol price and Diesel rate cut announced

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a major reduction in fuel rates. Petrol will drop by Rs74 per litre, from Rs373 to Rs299. Diesel will be down Rs67 per litre, from Rs378 to Rs311.

The new prices will take effect after midnight, 12am, the Prime Minister’s Office confirmed.
