ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has demanded a 10 percent increase in salaries for government employees.
Speaking in the National Assembly session, former prime minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf said government employees, pensioners, and people linked to agriculture are affected by the budget immediately. He said these groups remain under pressure.
Ashraf said the business community also faces difficulties. “The business community raises the rate of its goods in line with inflation and in the end the impact falls on the consumer,” he said.
He criticized the government’s proposed raise. “The government has increased salaries of government employees by 7 percent, which is very low. We increased salaries and pensions by up to 100 percent,” he said. Ashraf urged the government to raise the salary increase from 7 percent to 10 percent.
