PUNJAB: The government has announced a major initiative aimed at reducing environmental pollution by introducing an electric bike rental service to make e-bikes more accessible to the public.
Officials said the project is designed to promote eco-friendly transport amid rising fuel prices and growing demand for affordable commuting options.
In the initial phase, around 10,000 electric bikes will be offered on a rental basis, along with the establishment of 300 docking and charging stations across Lahore.
Authorities said the Punjab Housing Authority (PHA) will provide land for these stations, enabling better connectivity between residential areas, commercial zones and public transport points.
The project is expected to significantly reduce carbon emissions and help control smog and air pollution in the city by lowering the use of fuel-based vehicles.
Officials added that the service will be accessible through a mobile application, targeting students, workers and the general public as a low-cost mobility solution.
However, authorities have not yet announced the rental pricing structure, and it remains unclear whether the service will be offered on an hourly or daily basis.
