Better late than never as they say..! Businessman and Indian Premier League (IPL) founder Lalit Modi has finally come out in support of actress Sushmita Sen, strongly rejecting claims that she was a “gold digger” during their relationship.
Speaking about Sen, Modi praised her achievements and financial independence, describing her as a successful and self-made woman.
“Sushmita is very beautiful and a very well-to-do lady. She has more diamonds than anybody I have known on this planet. She is a very wealthy woman and has achieved everything on her own,” he said.
Modi went on to dismiss the criticism directed at the former Miss Universe, revealing that she was often the one paying for their expenses when they were together.
“There was a time when I went out with her and didn’t have to pay for anything. She paid for everything. I was like a kept boyfriend,” he remarked. “Sushmita is a remarkable, self-made woman. If anyone was a digger in the relationship, it was me. She was not a gold digger , I was a diamond digger, and she was the diamond.”

The comments come nearly four years after Modi publicly announced his relationship with Sen in 2022, sparking widespread debate on social media.
At the time, Sen responded to the criticism on Instagram, writing: “I dig deeper than gold… and I’ve always (famously) preferred diamonds!!” in an apparent response to those who labelled her a “gold digger.”
