WASHINGTON: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has reaffirmed that Pakistan remains firmly committed to its principled stance on Palestine, rejecting speculation about joining the Abraham Accords.

Speaking to journalists in Washington, Dar said rumors regarding the Abraham Accords were circulating, but Pakistan’s position remained clear and unchanged. He stated that Pakistan would not alter its stance until an independent Palestinian state is recognized on the basis of pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif (Jerusalem) as its capital.

The foreign minister said Pakistan continues to advocate peace and diplomacy, claiming that Islamabad played a role in facilitating dialogue between the United States and Iran after decades of strained relations.

Dar also said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Pakistan has gained greater recognition on the global stage, while India’s efforts to isolate the country internationally have failed.

Reiterating Pakistan’s position on Kashmir, he said the Kashmiri people should be granted their rights in accordance with United Nations resolutions.

The deputy prime minister further revealed that his meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio was held in a cordial atmosphere and was attended by Pakistan’s ambassador and senior Foreign Office officials.

His remarks come days after US President Donald Trump suggested that Muslim-majority countries, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Pakistan, should become part of the Abraham Accords following a potential agreement with Iran.
