WASHINGTON: United States President Donald Trump has reaffirmed his unwavering confidence in Pakistan’s role as a primary mediator in the ongoing conflict with Iran, dismissing domestic criticism and signaling optimism for a comprehensive diplomatic breakthrough.
Speaking to reporters on the White House lawn late Tuesday before departing for a series of high-level engagements regarding China, the President doubled down on his administration’s reliance on Islamabad to bridge the gap between Washington and Tehran.

The President’s remarks come at a sensitive juncture for regional stability following the military escalations earlier this year, including the US-led operation “Epic Fury.”
While a fragile ceasefire currently holds, the role of Pakistan in maintaining this peace has become a flashpoint in Washington’s corridors of power. Addressing a chorus of skepticism from his own allies, most notably Senator Lindsey Graham, who recently called for a complete re-evaluation of the partnership, President Trump remained steadfast. He characterized the Pakistani leadership not just as partners, but as essential architects of the current diplomatic path.
It may also be mentioned here that President Trump was particularly effusive in his praise for the Pakistani leadership, specifically naming Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir. He told the press corps that the Pakistanis have been “great” throughout the process, noting that both the Field Marshal and the Prime Minister have been absolutely instrumental. This public endorsement follows a pattern of burgeoning rapport between the White House and Rawalpindi, with the President previously referring to Munir as his “favorite Field Marshal.”
According to Middle East observers, the mediation efforts led by Islamabad have been multifaceted, involving the hosting of secret talks and the shuttling of complex proposals that have successfully secured pauses in hostilities, particularly those threatening the vital shipping lanes of the Strait of Hormuz.
Despite allegations from some US circles regarding Islamabad’s historical ties with Tehran, the President emphasized that the current trajectory is designed to yield a “good deal” that serves the interests of all parties involved.
In this press talk, President Trump expressed a distinct confidence that the eventual outcome would be beneficial for the American people while also proving favorable for the Iranians.
He maintained that his administration is only interested in a deal that holds weight, suggesting that the progress made through Pakistani channels has brought the two adversaries closer to a resolution than many had anticipated. While the President noted that he does not strictly require outside assistance, he underscored that he deeply appreciates the contributions made by Pakistan.
