How young girls are lured into Karachi’s hidden prostitution network?

KARACHI: A disturbing investigative documentary has exposed the inner workings of an alleged prostitution network operating in Karachi, revealing how young girls are lured, trafficked and forced into the illegal trade under the guise of employment and financial opportunity.

According to the report, the network operates through organised groups and intermediaries who target vulnerable families, particularly those facing poverty. The investigation found that girls are often deceived with promises of jobs, marriage or a better life, only to be trapped in exploitative conditions once they arrive in the city.

The documentary highlights that recruiters, including both men and women, play a key role in identifying and persuading victims. In several cases, families were reportedly misled or coerced into sending their daughters away, unaware of the circumstances awaiting them.

Once trapped, the victims are allegedly moved between locations, including private residences and hidden facilities, making detection by law enforcement difficult. The report suggests that the network operates discreetly across different parts of the city, often relying on informal contacts and coded communication to avoid scrutiny.

Investigators further revealed that victims are subjected to psychological pressure, threats and, in some instances, physical abuse to ensure compliance. Escape is made difficult due to isolation, fear and lack of support systems.

The findings underscore broader concerns about human trafficking and sexual exploitation in Pakistan, where such activities remain illegal but persist underground. Experts note that poverty, lack of education and weak enforcement mechanisms continue to make women and children particularly vulnerable to exploitation.

The documentary calls for stronger law enforcement action, greater public awareness and improved protection mechanisms for at-risk individuals, urging authorities to dismantle such networks and bring those responsible to justice.
