The Grand Alliance of Private Schools Associations Sindh has announced a complete strike of private schools and colleges across the province on January 9 in protest against anti-corruption actions.
Addressing a press conference at the Karachi Press Club, alliance leaders Haider Ali, Shehzad Akhtar, Tariq Shah, Anwar Bhatti, Danish-uz-Zaman, Nasir Zaidi and others said they were demanding dignified implementation of a court verdict and urged the Chief Minister of Sindh to take notice of the situation.
They highlighted serious issues being faced by private educational institutions across the province and expressed strong concerns over verification drives being conducted by the Anti-Corruption Department in schools.
The speakers said education is the foundation of national development, yet millions of children in Sindh remain out of school.
In such circumstances, private institutions, despite limited resources, are educating millions of students at low fees and also providing free education as part of their social responsibility.
They explained that under a Sindh High Court Sukkur Bench verdict dated December 8, 2025, the Anti-Corruption Department was tasked with verifying free-ship lists submitted by regional directors. Following this, anti-corruption teams began directly visiting schools for inspections.
The alliance maintained that this process violates the Sindh Private Institutions Act 2013, under which the Directorate of Private Institutions is the sole regulatory authority. They expressed concern that armed officials entering schools are creating fear and mental stress among female teachers, children, and parents.
The leaders demanded that the chief minister and education minister ensure verification is carried out respectfully through the Directorate. They also announced legal action, province-wide protests from January 6 to 8, a black day on January 8, and a complete strike on January 9.
