The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has issued a notification announcing a reduction of 88 paisas per unit in electricity prices for one month to provide immediate relief to domestic, industrial, and agricultural consumers.

The reduction will apply to customers of all distribution companies, including K-Electric, but lifeline consumers and electric vehicle charging stations will not be eligible for this relief.

Consumers will see this adjustment reflected in their December electricity bills, and officials say the decision is expected to offer significant relief to the general public during the month.

Meanwhile, the federal government has introduced major incentives aimed at supporting industrial and agricultural sectors. T

he electricity rate for additional units consumed by industries has been reduced from Rs34 to Rs22.98 per unit, while for the agricultural sector, the rate has been cut from Rs38 to Rs22.98 per unit. This measure will substantially reduce the average electricity cost for both sectors.

Energy Minister Awais Leghari stated that the three-year package will help businesses in the industrial and agricultural sectors plan more effectively, boost production, and create new employment opportunities.

He added that data centers, crypto-mining operations, and greenfield industries will also benefit from the package.

He further explained that if a farmer previously used 100 units, using an additional 100 units will now reduce the average electricity cost by Rs7 per unit. In the industrial sector, consumption of an additional 1,000 units will bring down the average rate by roughly Rs5 per unit.

According to the Power Division, the package will take effect immediately following the notification, and the relief will apply to units consumed beyond last year’s usage.

The Energy Minister said the initiative is part of the government’s broader efforts to stabilize the economy and provide relief to the public.
