A young man in Karachi who recorded a vlog in support of creating a new province was abducted two nights ago and subjected to torture.
The kidnappers also filmed the torture and shared the video on social media, spreading fear and anxiety among residents of the city.
The incident highlights how severely law enforcement has weakened in the country’s largest city and the provincial capital. Senior journalist Faisal Hussain said that people coming from Punjab to Sindh to campaign for a new province should take note of this situation.
He added that if those advocating such a narrative cannot be provided security, then the idea of promoting this narrative should also be reconsidered, as it is not possible without state protection.
Social media users also reacted strongly, saying that if someone discusses the formation of a new province in Sindh through constitutional means, Sindhi nationalist groups can abduct and torture them, later circulating the videos to instill fear. Users questioned why the state remains silent in such circumstances.
Observers say that the state of law and order in Karachi is deteriorating to the point where it is almost nonexistent.
According to citizens, criminals operate freely, and no one is able to control them. The absence or ineffective role of state institutions has fueled fear and unrest, leaving people worried about how authorities will respond to similar incidents in the future.
Journalist Qadir Khan Yousafzai questioned why there is no operation against separatist elements in Sindh and why they are treated so leniently. Another user said their extreme, violent behavior becomes visible every year in the first week of December, yet no action is taken.
