Today, September 21, 2025, Bollywood’s famous actress Kareena Kapoor Khan is celebrating her 45th birthday, and fans, fellow artists, and well-known personalities from around the world are congratulating her. On social media, with the hashtag #HappyBirthdayKareena, her contributions to cinema are being celebrated, while her career achievements and charming personality are being praised.

According to details, Kareena Kapoor Khan was born on September 21, 1980, in Mumbai, into a film family. Her father Randhir Kapoor and mother Babita were both actors, while her elder sister Karisma Kapoor is also an actress. Her name was inspired by the novel Anna Karenina, chosen by her mother, and she has Punjabi and Sindhi ancestry.

In childhood, Kareena grew up in a film environment, but her father was against women pursuing film careers, which led to her parents’ separation. Kareena mostly lived with her mother, who worked jobs to run the household. She describes herself as a mischievous and pampered child and was drawn towards films inspired by Nargis and Meena Kumari.

She received her early education at Jamnabai Narsee School in Mumbai and Welham Girls’ School in Dehradun. Later, she completed two years of commerce at Mithibai College, did a microcomputer course at Harvard Summer School, and enrolled at Government Law College. However, due to her interest in acting, she left her studies incomplete.

For acting training, Kareena went to Kishore Namit Kapoor’s Institute, which was affiliated with the Film and Television Institute of India. Later, she regretted leaving her education midway, but her passion kept her attached to the film industry.

Kareena made her debut in 2000 with the film Refugee, where she played the lead role alongside Abhishek Bachchan. The film was moderately successful, and she won the Filmfare Award for Best Debut.

In 2001, Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham proved to be major successes in her career. Her role as Poo in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham became iconic and earned her a Filmfare nomination.

From 2002 to 2003, she faced continuous failures, and critics labeled her as confined to repetitive roles. However, the 2004 film Chameli gave her career a new direction, earning her a Special Jury Award. That same year, her performance in Dev was also praised, and she won the Filmfare Critics Award.

In 2006, her acting in Omkara was appreciated internationally, and she won her second Critics Award. The 2007 film Jab We Met became a milestone in her career, winning her the Filmfare Award for Best Actress.

Kareena’s successful films include 3 Idiots (2009), Bodyguard (2011), Singham Returns (2014), and Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015). She also found success in women-centric films like Veere Di Wedding (2018) and Crew (2024).

In 2023, she made her OTT debut with Jaane Jaan, which became Netflix’s top film. In 2024, The Buckingham Murders marked her first production. That same year, a film festival celebrated her 25-year career, and she became the country’s highest tax-paying female celebrity.

In her personal life, Kareena was in a relationship with Shahid Kapoor from 2004 to 2007. Later, she married Saif Ali Khan in 2012, with whom she has two sons, Taimur (2016) and Jeh (2021). Even after marriage, she continues to practice Hinduism and is active in humanitarian work, particularly as a UNICEF ambassador.
