Three newborn babies died in flood-affected Wazirabad area of Punjab after their mother was unable to receive timely medical aid, rescue officials said.
The floods have severely disrupted daily life in Wazirabad, with submerged roads causing major obstructions to transportation. According to rescue authorities, the mother lost her three infants—two daughters and one son—because emergency medical help could not reach her in time.
The grieving mother said the local hospital was surrounded by floodwater and inaccessible. “If timely medical care had been available, my children could have survived,” she lamented.
Reports indicate that the woman gave birth inside a vehicle near Nala Phalko on August 28. District administration officials stated that when rescue teams reached the family, the delivery had already taken place and both the mother and babies were in stable condition.
They added that the mother declined to be shifted to a hospital at the time.
Meanwhile, Punjab government sources reported that India has released another major flood surge after opening all gates of the Salal Dam. The incoming wave, carrying around 800,000 cusecs of water, is expected to reach Head Marala within two days.
District authorities said they had just received confirmation of the flood surge and have begun issuing public announcements in villages along the Chenab River.
