Due to inflation and the less purchasing power of the public, up to one million fewer animals were sacrificed on the occasion of Eidul al-Adha this year in Pakistan.

According to the Pakistan Tanneries Association and livestock farmers, about 600,000 to 100,000 fewer animals were sacrificed on Eid-ul-Adha this year.

A total of 697,000 animals were sacrificed on Eid-ul-Adha, including 30,000 cows, 34,000 goats, 400,000 sheep, and 100,000 camels.

The Pakistan Tanneries Association has said that about 600,000 to 100,000 fewer animals were sacrificed on Eid-ul-Adha this year. The reason for the decrease in the number was inflation and reduced purchasing power.

According to the Tanneries Association, there was a trend of decline in animal prices on Eid this year, with the total value of sacrificial animals estimated to be less than Rs 500 billion. The average price of a cow decreased by Rs 25,000 to 150,000, and the price of a goat increased by Rs 10,000 to 50,000, while the price of a camel also increased. On the other hand, the value of the hides this year has been estimated at Rs 6.35 billion.
