Saira Banu has stated that she should not be referred to as “A.R. Rahman’s former wife” because their divorce has not been finalized yet.
According to a report by Indian media, Oscar-winning singer A.R. Rahman was admitted to the hospital yesterday due to health issues but was discharged from a Chennai hospital a few hours later. He was hospitalized due to dehydration.
Following A.R. Rahman’s recovery, his wife, Saira Banu, expressed her well wishes and issued a clarification, stating that she should not be called “A.R. Rahman’s former wife” because their divorce has not yet been formalized.
In a statement issued through her lawyer, Saira Banu said, “I pray for his (A.R. Rahman’s) speedy recovery. I was informed that he experienced chest pain and underwent angioplasty. By the grace of Allah, he is now fine.”
She further stated, “I also want to clarify that we are still legally husband and wife; we are just living separately because I have been facing health issues for the past few years, and I did not want to put any additional pressure on him. Please do not refer to me as his former wife.”
It is noteworthy that Rahman and Saira Banu announced their separation last year after 29 years of marriage. At that time, a statement was issued stating, “After many years of marital life, Saira and her husband Rahman have made the difficult decision to separate.”
