The recent appointments, transfers, and other measures in the courts are apparently aimed at ensuring justice for the people and addressing the backlog of pending cases.
During a talk show namely, Sawal Yeh Hai, host Maria Memon uncovered significant revelations regarding these measures, presenting shocking facts to the viewers as more than 2.4 million cases are currently pending in various courts across Pakistan.
If those responsible for justice truly want to ensure fair trials for the public, they must give this issue the importance it deserves and work towards a solution. Maria memon further mentioned that during a recent event, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah highlighted this critical issue and emphasized the need to address it.
Earlier, speaking at the event, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah stated that a total of 2.4 million cases are pending across all courts, including 2 million cases in Pakistan’s district courts. He pointed out that the biggest problem lies within the district courts. He also stressed that it is important to note that while higher courts receive 4,000 new cases daily, district courts handle around 70,000 cases per day.
Regarding the number of judges, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah stated that if we compare the number of cases with the available judges, the judicial system, from civil courts to the Supreme Court, has a capacity for 4,000 judges, yet only 3,000 are currently working, with 1,000 positions still unfilled.
