Sindh Home Minister, Ziaul Hassan Lanjhar, has taken notice of the complaint made by Chinese investors against Karachi police for extortion and harassment, urging the Inspector General (IG) of Sindh to conduct an inquiry.
Yesterday, Chinese investors approached the Sindh High Court seeking protection from alleged harassment and extortion by the police
. The constitutional bench of the Sindh High Court heard the petition filed by six Chinese investors, which also included the federal Ministry of Interior, Chief Secretary, IG, CPEC Security, Malir Police officials, the Chinese Embassy, and others as respondents.
According to a statement issued by the Home Department, Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjhar took notice of the issue of Chinese investors approaching the court and instructed IG Sindh to initiate an inquiry, appointing a senior police officer as the inquiry officer.
Ziaul Hassan Lanjhar emphasized that the Sindh government is committed to ensuring the security of Chinese citizens in accordance with the spirit and priorities of its SOPs. He directed that “foolproof security” be provided to Chinese citizens.
The Sindh Home Minister stated that it is essential to regularly inform sponsors and check the security arrangements through SPU officers to ensure compliance with the SOP. He emphasized that any deficiencies or gaps in the security measures for Chinese citizens should be identified and addressed promptly.
To eliminate security gaps, measures must be taken in accordance with the law and SOPs. In case of security-related complaints from Chinese nationals, senior officers should immediately investigate and resolve the issues.
