Abdul Aleem Khan, the Federal Minister for Privatization, Board of Investment, and Communications, has expressed that the launch of PIA flights to Europe is a positive development, instilling confidence in travelers that they will soon have the opportunity to fly with Pakistan International Airlines to Europe.
According to a report by Pak Observer on Sunday, he noted that this flight operation marks a significant step towards the privatization of PIA. He is optimistic that following the European routes, PIA may soon announce flights to the United Kingdom and the United States, which would enhance the airline’s credibility and make it more appealing in the market.
In a recent discussion, Minister Khan revealed that several obstacles hindering the privatization process have been addressed, and the remaining tasks will be completed swiftly.
He also mentioned that the IMF has agreed on two key issues for potential buyers of PIA, including the elimination of the 18% sales tax on new aircraft purchases and the transfer of PIA’s losses to a Holding Company.
Khan emphasized that under the new terms, PIA’s liabilities and outstanding debts will be cleared, allowing for a privatization process free of financial burdens. These reforms are expected to make PIA a more attractive investment opportunity.
The Federal Minister assured that the privatization of PIA is progressing rapidly, and positive news regarding the transfer of the airline to the private sector will be announced soon.
