Mazar-e-Sharif: A Chinese businessman has embraced Islam in the presence of Afghan Taliban leaders in Afghanistan’s Balkh province, according to the state news agency Bakhtar.
The trader, previously known as Wang Fei Qi, recited the Kalima Tayyiba during a ceremony at the provincial office in Mazar-e-Sharif. After converting to Islam, he was given the name Abdullah Muhammad.
Haji Zaid, the spokesperson for the provincial government, confirmed the development, adding that Abdullah Muhammad has been actively collaborating with the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in the establishment of several factories.
The conversion ceremony was attended by local officials, symbolizing the close relationship between the businessman and the provincial authorities.
In August, an American tourist named Andreas embraced Islam after meeting Afghan government officials at a checkpoint in Jilrez, Maidan Wardak province. Inspired by his interactions with the officials, Andreas decided to learn more about Islam, ultimately leading to his conversion.
Afghanistan has seen several similar incidents over the years. In 2007, two US soldiers stationed at Bagram Air Base embraced Islam and later married in Afghanistan.
