International Men’s Day is observed annually on November 19 to honor and recognize the important roles that men play in families, communities, and society.
In addition to encouraging discussions about gender equality and men’s issues, this day aims to raise awareness of men’s health, wellbeing, and positive role models.
Dr. Jerome Teelucksingh started the celebration in Trinidad and Tobago in 1999 with the intention of addressing issues affecting men’s lives and showcasing men’s accomplishments.
Why is it observed?
The day is a chance to honor the men in our lives who make significant contributions to society, whether they are fathers, brothers, partners, or friends.
In addition to being a time for celebration, it also highlights the difficulties that men encounter, including mental health issues, high suicide rates, and social pressures.
In order to help men live healthier and happier lives, International Men’s Day seeks to dispel stereotypes, promote candid discussions, and create networks of support. History and Significance Dr. Jerome Teelucksingh brought the concept of International Men’s Day back to life in 1999 after it had been proposed in 1992. In addition to highlighting important topics like male health, the effects of toxic masculinity, and the significance of raising positive male role models, he envisioned a day to honor men’s accomplishments.
Since then, the observance has expanded into a global movement complete with festivities and debates.
