Mufti Tariq Masood has issued a clarification regarding his previous statement, which sparked controversy over alleged “errors in the Holy Quran”, saying his words were misunderstood, but he apologized if his remarks had hurt the sentiments of Muslims.

A video of Mufti Tariq Masood, where he was speaking at an event (likely in Canada), has gone viral on social media, leading to significant criticism.

In the video, Mufti Tariq Masood mentions that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was ‘Ummi’ (unlettered), and sometimes the Companions made mistakes when writing, which the Prophet (PBUH) could not correct due to his inability to read and write. He further mentioned that some of these errors persist in the Quran today, citing a word, “Lnisafaan,” which he claimed is grammatically incorrect but still appears in the Quran.

In a subsequent video shared on social media, Mufti Masood provided further clarification of his earlier comments.

It is important to note that Mufti Tariq Masood is a well-qualified Islamic scholar, having completed the Dars-e-Nizami curriculum, through which he received formal certification as an ‘Alim.’ He is qualified to teach various Islamic disciplines, including Qur’an, Tafsir, Hadith, Arabic Grammar, Beliefs, and Islamic Law.
