John Abraham and Sharvari’s film Vedaa, which debuted on Independence Day, has faced a challenging start at the box office. Despite a promising opening day, the film experienced a significant drop in collections on its second day. According to trade tracker Sacnilk, Vedaa earned Rs 1.6 crore on Friday, following an opening day collection of Rs 6.3 crore. This brings its total net collection to Rs 7.9 crore.
The dip in performance can be attributed to the working day on Friday, which saw an overall occupancy of just 11.87 percent. In Mumbai, where the film had 418 shows, the occupancy was 13.50 percent. In the Delhi-NCR region, with 466 shows, occupancy was even lower at 9.75 percent.
Vedaa is currently competing with two other major releases: Stree 2 and Khel Khel Mein. Stree 2 has been dominating the box office, with its collections expected to surpass the Rs 100 crore mark today. In contrast, Khel Khel Mein has managed only Rs 6.95 crore in its first two days.
John Abraham’s previous solo films have generally performed better. His 2018 film Satyameva Jayate made Rs 19.5 crore on its opening day, while his 2022 release Ek Villain Returns earned Rs 7.05 crore on its first day, surpassing Vedaa‘s opening figures. In the past, films like Attack, Satyameva Jayate 2, and Mumbai Saga also struggled, with opening numbers falling below Rs 5 crore.
Given the strong performance of Stree 2, which is capturing a significant share of the box office, it remains to be seen whether Vedaa and Khel Khel Mein can maintain their footing. The screen count for Vedaa and Khel Khel Mein is considerably lower compared to the extensive release of Stree 2, adding to the challenge for these films to make a mark in the current competitive landscape.
