Sindh is set to make history with its first-ever auction of premium number plates scheduled for June 29 (Saturday).
At a press conference in Karachi, Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon outlined the process for acquiring these coveted plates.
The auction will feature three categories: Platinum, Gold, and Silver, each with varying character limits and base prices. Platinum plates, with a maximum of three characters, start at Rs2 million. Gold plates allow up to five characters and begin at Rs1 million, while Silver plates, accommodating up to seven characters, have a base price of Rs50,000.
Memon emphasized that participation in the auction is mandatory for acquiring these premium plates, which will be conducted openly. He clarified that the provincial government is not funding the auction ceremony, with sponsorship provided by vehicle manufacturing companies.
“We expect this initiative to generate significant revenue for the government,” Memon added optimistically.
Last month, the Sindh provincial cabinet approved the introduction of premium number plates, which include categories for commercial vehicles, non-commercial vehicles, and motorcycles. The upcoming auction marks a milestone in Sindh’s efforts to enhance vehicle registration and revenue collection through innovative measures.
