The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has experienced its highest summer temperature to date.
According to a recent announcement by the National Centre of Meteorology on the social media platform X, an astonishing temperature of 49.9 °C was recorded in Mezaira, located in the Al Dhafra region, at precisely 3:15 p.m. on Friday. This extreme heat marks a significant milestone in the country’s weather records for the summer season.
The meteorological department had previously forecasted that the maximum temperature for the day in interior regions would reach 49ºC, coupled with a high humidity index of 90%. This prediction underscored the intense weather conditions that were expected.
In addition to the soaring temperatures, the UAE recently observed its summer solstice from June 21 to June 22. This event, which marks the longest day of the year, lasted for an impressive 13 hours and 48 minutes. The summer solstice signals the official commencement of the summer season, as noted by experts in Astronomy and Space Sciences.
During the third week of June, the entire nation enters what is referred to as “astronomical summer.” This period begins with the summer solstice, a phenomenon during which one of Earth’s poles is tilted closest to the sun, resulting in the longest day of the year. In the UAE, this translates to an extended period of daylight, heralding the start of the hot summer months.
