RAWALPINDI: The Islamabad District Administration announced on Monday to reduce public transport fares by Rs10 in twin cities after a decrease in petroleum prices.
Irfan Nawaz Memon, the Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad, in collaboration with transport unions, has announced a fare reduction for public transport services. Following extensive discussions with union representatives, fares for trips over 30 kilometers have been decreased by Rs10.
The Deputy Commissioner has stressed the importance of compliance, warning that any vehicle not adopting the new fares will face serious consequences. Starting tomorrow, all assistant commissioners will monitor the implementation of the revised fares to ensure their effectiveness.
Last month, Rawalpindi Deputy Commissioner Dr. Hassan Waqar Cheema reduced public transport fares by 5 percent on all routes in Rawalpindi following a decrease in petroleum prices. He instructed the Secretary of the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) to display fare lists at prominent locations at all bus stands and form a special squad to check fares daily to enforce the reduction.
