Pagla Mosque, located in Kishoreganj, Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, has witnessed a remarkable surge in donations, exceeding 50 crore rupees contributed by worshippers throughout the year.
A recent viral video circulating on social media showcases individuals seated in a lengthy queue within a spacious hall, meticulously counting stacks of currency notes. Social media activist Mohammad Saleem identified the footage as originating from Pagla Masjid, situated in the Kishoreganj area of Dhaka, Bangladesh.
According to Saleem, in 2023 alone, a staggering sum of 55 crore 33 lakh 29 thousand 601 Pakistani rupees was collected from the eight branches of Pagla Masjid. These collections are emptied thrice annually to manage the accumulated donations.
Reportedly, the most recent opening of the mosque’s eight branches occurred on December 9, 2023. The Deputy Commissioner of Kishore Nagar, Abul Kalam Azad, alongside Mohammad Rasul Sheikh, President of the Pagla Masjid Committee, and the Superintendent of Police in Kishoreganj, oversaw the event. Twenty-three sacks brimming with monetary contributions were amassed, resulting in a total donation of 15 crore 99 lakh 69 thousand 173 rupees over four months, following a rigorous fifteen-hour counting process. Additionally, valuable items such as gold, silver, and diamonds were also recovered, adding to the overall value.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad revealed plans for a grand project: the construction of the Pagla Mosque and Islamic Complex. This facility aims to accommodate up to 50,000 Muslims concurrently for prayers, with provisions for separate prayer areas for five thousand women. The estimated cost for this ambitious undertaking stands at Tk115 crore, as stated by the deputy commissioner.
