ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Sunday held protests across various cities following the party’s call for demonstrations against alleged rigging, manipulation of election results and stealing of the party’s mandate in the February 8 polls.
Supporters and activists of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) mobilized nationwide on Sunday, organizing rallies in Rawalpindi and protests in Karachi, Kandhkot, Tank, and various other cities.
This surge in activity coincided with the PTI’s significant success in the recent general elections, where their candidates, initially running independently on February 8, later allied with the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) and emerged as the largest winning group.
In Lahore, law enforcement authorities arrested numerous protesting PTI members at GPO Chowk. Heavy police presence was observed on Mall Road and other strategic areas to maintain order and prevent any disturbances.
PTI has condemned the Punjab police for attacking a car with children inside, calling it “absolutely disgusting and unacceptable behaviour”.
“Shame on Maryam Nawaz whose government is crossing all limits of fascism!” the party said in a post on X.
Similarly, anticipating demonstrations by PTI workers, police and Sindh Rangers personnel were stationed outside the Korangi Deputy Commissioner’s office in Karachi.
Tensions rose in Rawalpindi as PTI demonstrators clashed with police after their rally, led by Seemabia Tahir, was barred from entering the city via the Khanna Pul route. Several party members were detained by police but later released upon intervention by Tahir.
In Tank, PTI supporters marched from Sabir Bazaar to the Town Hall ground, expressing their solidarity.
Moreover, protests and demonstrations took place in Faisalabad, Vehari, Khushab, Islamabad, Multan, Gujranwala, and various other cities across the country.
