ISLAMABAD: The proceedings of the case regarding the nomination of PTI chairman Imran Khan in the murder of a lawyer witnessed a commotion after the complainant raised objections over the bench.
A three-member bench headed by Justice Yahya Afridi heard the case on an appeal by the PTI Chairman regarding the nomination of his name in the murder of Advocate Abdul Razzaq Shar.
The PTI chief’s lawyer Latif Khosa appeared in court on behalf of the former prime minister, who is currently imprisoned in the Toshakhana case. Justice Afridi asked the senior lawyer if he read the investigating officer’s report.
The complainant’s counsel Amanullah Kunrani objected to the bench. He said a case is pending in the Sindh High Court against bench member Justice Hasan Azhar Rizvi,
“You are defaming my character. Which case is pending against me?” Justice Hasan Azhar Rizvi said.
“If you become a judge, I will give arguments. If you want to be a party, then I will say something else” the lawyer replied.
Did the complainant send you these instructions? Justice Mazahar Naqvi. A war of words erupted between the judge and the complainant’s lawyer.
Amanullah Kunrani said Justice Mazahir Naqvi had written a letter to the Chief Justice to take suo moto notice in the election case.
The court observed that Amanullah Kunrani’s behaviour is not like senior lawyers. The lawyer then tendered an unconditional apology to the court.
However, Justice Hasan Azhar Rizvi and Justice Mazahar Naqvi refused to accept the apology. I retract my accusations with folded hands, Kunrani said.
Justice Yahya Afridi accepted the apology. Justice Hasan Azhar Rizvi asked to provide evidence that there is a case or FIR against me. The court reserved its decision on accepting the apology.
The Supreme Court stayed the arrest of Chairman PTI till August 24 in the Quetta murder case. The court said further proceedings are not possible today and adjourned hearing.
