In Dadu, Sindh, a Malaria outbreak has tragically resulted in the death of at least three children. The district of Dadu was previously affected by massive floods last year, and now the Malaria outbreak has further compounded the challenges for its residents.
As of now, more than 1,000 people have been confirmed to be battling Malaria, with over 200 new cases reported in the last 24 hours.
The situation has been exacerbated by the difficulty in obtaining medicines to treat the affected individuals. Residents are struggling to access the necessary medications to care for their loved ones suffering from this mosquito-borne disease. The shortage of essential medicines has been reported to the authorities by the District Malaria program in-charge.
Last year, 12 districts in Sindh, including Khairpur, Sanghar, Shaheed Benazirabad, Naushehro Feroze, Badin, Mirpurkhas, Qambar, Jacobabad, Jamshoro, Larkana, Shikarpur, and Dadu, were declared ‘sensitive’ for Malaria by the National Institute of Health due to the outbreak of the disease.
The situation highlights the urgent need for resources and support to control and manage the Malaria outbreak in Dadu and other affected districts, especially considering the region’s recent history of floods and the resulting health challenges.
