RAWALPINDI: Islamabad United on Tuesday beat Multan Sultans by two wickets in Pakistan Super League (PSL) at the Pindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi.
Multan Sultans were denied a playoff position by to Faheem Ashraf’s outstanding 48-run performance as Islamabad United completed the highest-scoring run chase in PSL history.
Faheem came in at the death on the batting side for Islamabad United and with more than 13 an over needed off the last five, including 18 off the final over, dragged it back to win with a ball to spare.
Earlier, United invited Sultans to bat after winning the toss, who went on to set a huge target of 206 runs for United to chase.
Left-handed opener Shan Masood scored an anchoring half-century before Tim David’s quickfire 60 took Multan Sultans to a massive total of 205/5.
The dependable opening pair of Sultans once again laid a solid foundation as the duo accumulated 57 runs in the first powerplay. After losing few quick wickets, David joined Masood in the middle and wasted no time launching an onslaught on the United’s bowlers. The pair stitched a match-defining third wicket and added 80 runs to the total in just 38 deliveries.
The left-handed opener remained the top-scorer for the Sultans with a 50-ball 75, hitting 12 boundaries.
Shadab and Wasim Jr took two wickets each, while Faheem could pick up a wicket for Islamabad United.
