ISLAMABAD: The Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan has challenged Banking Court’s Jan 31 decision of ‘rejecting request for joining the court proceedings through video link due to health condition and giving last chance to appear in person in the prohibited funding case.

After ECP’s verdict in Prohibited Funding case, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Corporate Banking Circle had registered a case against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief and 10 others over accusations of receiving foreign funding.

The case’s First Information Report (FIR) stated that the accused including the former premier violated Foreign Exchange Act and all of the nominated persons were beneficiaries of the private bank account.

On January 31, Banking Court Judge Rakhshanda Shaheen warned the PTI leader that his interim bail would be cancelled if he failed to s how up on next date of hearing.

During the hearing, Salman Safdar, laywer for Imran Khan had requested the court to grant a one-time exemption on medical grounds, saying his client had received more than one bullet in the November 3 firing incident in Wazirabad, and was unable to move.

After hearing the arguments, the Banking court had adjourned the proceedings until February 15, and directed PTI chairman to ensure his appearance on the next date of hearing or face cancellation of bail.

The PTI Chairman on Wednesday approached the IHC, challenging Banking court’s Jan 31 decision of rejecting his plea of appearing via video link.
