At least 42 journalists were killed in Pakistan during the last four years, according to documents submitted by the information ministry in the Senate.
According to the documents, 42 journalists were killed, and 15 of them were in Punjab, 11 in Sindh, 13 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), and 3 in Balochistan.
Murtaza Javed Abbasi, minister of parliamentary affairs, said that only one of the 42 cases involved an accused journalist murder.

The Senate directed the Ministry of Interior to submit a comprehensive report on the killing of journalists in Pakistan.
Senator Danesh Kumar disagreed with the reported death toll, claiming that at than 10 journalists have been murdered in Balochistan, not only three as previously reported by the Ministry of Information.
“What steps is the government taking to protect the journalists of Balochistan?” he questioned.
