LAHORE: Federal Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah has voiced concern over statement given by PMLQ leader Moonis Elahi about receiving directives from former Army Chief Gen (R) Bajwa during the time of heightened political crisis in the country.
Moonis Elahi, it may be recalled, had told a TV anchorperson that his party had offers from both the camps (PDM and PTI) when the situation was critical in the wake of no-confidence motion against former prime minister Imran Khan but General (retd) Bajwa advised them to back the PTI. The vote of no trust, however, succeeded on April 9 this year with PMLQ splitting into two groups.

Talking to reporters after appearing in Anti-Narcotics court here in Lahore on Saturday, Rana Sanullah said the statement by Moonis Elahi has again created doubts in minds since the (Army) institutions had declared that it would not be interfering into politics anymore. “Statement by Moonis Elahi needs explanation,” said Rana Sanaullah, adding that his party was not in contacts with Pervez Elahi.
Responding to questions about Imran Khan’s decision to quit provincial assemblies and negotiations with the ruling coalition government, the federal interior minister said “in politics, doors for negotiations are never closed.” He said for the first time after his ouster, Imran Khan talked about negotiations the other day, and that the government and the opposition were like two wheels of a vehicle which had to move along together.
The dissolution of Punjab and KP assemblies, he said, would have no impact on Center or other provinces of Sindh and Balochistan. To counter PTI’s move (of dissolving provincial assemblies), he said dialogues would be held between Nawaz Sharif and allies.
