Moonis Elahi exposes ‘neutrality’ of Ex-Army Chief Gen (R) Bajwa

ISLAMABAD: The leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PMLQ) Moonis Elahi has made startling disclosures about ‘neutral’ role of former army chief General (R) Bajwa in politics.

In an interview to a local TV channel last night, the PMLQ leader claimed that there was no doubt that former COAS Bajwa fully supported the PTI, but when he withdrew his support, he became a bad person. “This is a bad example and I have a disagreement with them on it. He [Bajwa] was never against the PTI,” Moonis added.

Moonis Elahi said his party had offers from both the camps (PDM and PTI) when the situation was critical in the wake of no-confidence motion against former prime minister Imran Khan but General (retd) Bajwa advised them to back the PTI. The vote of no trust, it may be recalled, succeeded on April 9 this year.

His interview came just days after the former army chief General (R) Bajwa, while addressing Defense day ceremony at GHQ on November 23, had claimed that the Army had decided in February last year to remain apolitical in future.

Moonis Elahi said that his inclination was with the PTI and he also talked to his father on the matter. On dissolution of assemblies, Moonis said that his party was of the opinion that general elections should be held as soon as possible because the popularity of Imran Khan was at the peak at the time. “This is favorable for both the PTI and its allies,” he added.

Responding to a question, he said that his party had no contact with the new establishment, and that “when the establishment says that they have nothing to do with politics, I buys it because they have not influenced the Punjab government.”
