KARACHI: Pakistan People’s Party has paid rich tribute to the martyrs on completion of 15 years of Karsaz tragedy.
It may be recalled that on 18 October 2007, 15 years ago, People’s Party workers from all over the country had thronged to Karachi to welcome former Prime Minister Ms. Benazir Bhutto.
Around midnight, and in the shape of huge rally, PPP workers and leaders were on their way to Bilawal House with Ms. Benazir Bhutto on top of a truck when two explosions rocked the entire area.
As a result of the terrible incident, more than 180 people including some media workers lost lives, while more than 450 injured.
The PPP leader and Minister of Climate Change Sherry Rehman took to Twitter and offered her Salute to those martyred and injured in the Karsaz tragedy, saying that it had been 15 years since the Karsaz tragedy but the wounds on our hearts were still fresh today.
Sherry Rehman said that Karsaz incident was the biggest terror attack on any political party in the history of Pakistan in which more than 180 people’s party workers were martyred and hundreds were injured. On October 18, she said, it was not Benazir Bhutto, but democracy had returned to the country.
She said hundreds of thousands of people had turned to the main streets of Karachi to welcome their beloved leader. People’s Party has made the most sacrifices for the restoration of democracy and constitution in the country.
Sherry Rehman said that in the political and democratic history of Pakistan, the bravery story of Jan Nisaran of People’s Party will be written with golden words.
