KARACHI: A statue of Indian Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman has been set up in the PAF Museum Karachi. The newly established gallery was inaugurated by Air Chief Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan on November 6.
Abhinandan’s MiG-21 fighter plane was shot down by a Pakistani JF-17 Thunder jet during an air skirmish over the skies of Kashmir.
The mannequin of defeated pilot Abhinandan, the wreckage of his MiG21 jet, not to mention “blown up by the PAF aircraft” has been set in the gallery. Parts of his uniform, maps retrieved from his possession, wristwatch and the cup in which Abhinandan was offered tea by Pakistan, have been also exhibited in the gallery for the visitants.
On February 27, Pakistan Air Force (PAF) after striking down two Indian fighter jets had detained one pilot, identified as Abhinandan Varthaman son of Air Marshal Simhakuttay Varthaman. Abhinandan ejected himself after being hit in the airspace of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
Later on, Pakistani officials handed over Abhinandan Varthaman to Indian authorities at Wahga Border crossing on 1st March this year.
