ISLAMABAD: Police have registered a case against the leadership of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Karachi after rioting at the Numaish Chowrangi.
Police registered the case under Anti-Terrorism Act and other provisions of arson filed on the complaint of SHO Soldier Bazaar Waqar Azeem.Â
He said the PTI leaders provoked the masses for blocking the road, vandalizing public properties and raised anti-state slogans. It said that almost 700 PTI workers gathered at Numaish Chowrangi and blocked the roads. He further said that the protestors also set a police van on fire and damaged several other vehicles.
PTI Sindh President Ali Zaidi, Firdous Shamim Naqvi, Bilal Ghaffar, Khurram Sher Zaman, Arsalan Taj, Muhammad Ali, Jamal Siddiqui, Mohsin Butt and Ashraf Ali have been named in the case.
The PTI on Thursday ended its sit-in at Karachi’s Numaish Chowrangi after Imran Khan called off the long march after issuing an ultimatum to the government.
Imran Khan gave a six-day ultimatum to the federal government to dissolve assemblies and announce fresh elections.
PTI was observing sit-in at M.A Jinnah Road against the torture over party workers by police. Taffic police said M.A Jinnah Road has been opened for the traffic after the end of the sit-in.
In connection with the PTI’s Islamabad long march, workers also gathered at the Numaish Chowrangi in Karachi where the situation has become tense.
A day earlier, Numaish Chowrangi turned into a battleground when protestors clashed with police in connection with the party’s long march.
According to reports, the situation turned tense on Wednesday evening when furious protesters set fire to a police mobile and several policemen were injured. PTI workers also held protests at Shahrah-e-Qaedin, Khudadad Colony and Noorani Chowrangi.
