ISLAMABAD: Iranian Interior Minister Dr Ahmed Vahidi along with his nine-member delegation arrived in Pakistan on Monday on a daylong visit.
Minister for Interior Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed received the distinguished guest at Nur Khan Air Base. Secretary Interior Yousaf Naseem Khokhar and other senior officials were also present at the airport.
During his one-day visit, the Iranian Interior Minister would hold meetings with Prime Minister Imran Khan, Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed and other key government officials.
In a statement, the Interior Ministry said that Pak-Iran border management and exchange of prisoners will be discussed during the meeting. Pakistan has raised the provision of safe havens in Iran and supply of weapons to the terrorists engaged in Balochistan to disrupt the law and order in the province.
In October last year, both the countries had agreed to form a special committee for effective implementation on an agreement for exchange of prisoners. Both sides had also discussed suggestions to overcome terrorism and human trafficking and vowed to keep their efforts continue for formation of stable Afghanistan.
The agreement was finalised in a meeting between Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed and members of the Iran-Pakistan Parliamentary Friendship Group in Majlis (Iranian Parliament).
It is pertinent to mention here that the Saudi interior minister also visited Pakistan last week and had useful discussions on the security subjects with Pakistani functionaries including Prime Minister Khan.
PM Khan had expressed the hope that a large number of Pakistani prisoners in Saudi Arabia would be repatriated to the country under this framework. The prime minister had also condemned attacks by Yemen’s Houthis against Saudi Arabia and reaffirmed Pakistan’s full support to the kingdom’s security, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
