ISLAMABAD: Pakistan reported more than five thousand cases of the novel coronavirus on Tuesday, as the situation further worsens amid the surging number of cases fuelled by the Omicron variant.
According to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), Pakistan reported 5,034 cases and ten deaths in the previous 24-hour period. The national tally of coronavirus cases has reached 1,333,521 while the death toll stands at 29,029.
The positivity ratio has risen to 9.45%, while the number of active has surged to 39,881 after the recent increase in cases. There were 53,253 tests conducted in the previous day leading to new cases.
There are 827 people who still remain in critical condition including 46 new patients in the previous day. Overall 1,264,611 people have recovered from the virus, including 1,125 in the past day.
Sindh has recorded the highest number of cases and remains the worst affected region. The province has recorded 505,930 cases and 7,703 deaths while there are 25,700 active cases.
Punjab has recorded 454,372 cases and 13,091 deaths, while the number of active cases in the province remains at 10,237. Islamabad has recorded 111,855 cases and 969 deaths while there are 2,780 active cases in the federal capital.
The number of cases in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa stands at 182,372 and 5,963 deaths, while Balochistan has recorded 33,729 cases and 367 deaths. Gilgit Baltistan had recorded 10,446 cases and 187 deaths while Azad Kashmir has recorded 34,770 cases and 749 deaths.
