KARACHI: Electricity has been increased to Rs 3.75 per unit for Sindh capital consumers using electricity, for which a formal notification has also been issued.

According to details, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has issued a notification to increase the price of electricity in which NEPRA has said that electricity has been made more expensive in the context of September’s fuel charges adjustment.

According to the notification issued by NEPRA, the current increase in electricity price will be received in December electricity bills. NEPRA had heard a request for an increase in the unit price in November for the September fuel adjustment.

Earlier, the NEPRA had hiked electricity tariffs in the wake of the September fuel adjustment, which made electricity more expensive for consumers by Rs2.52.

The price hike was applied to the November bills, NEPRA’s notification said, adding that the increase would not apply to Lifeline and K Electric customers, but under the current NEPRA decision, K Electric consumers would also use expensive electricity.

In the past, an increase in the price of electricity was expected to impose a collective burden of Rs 90 billion on the people. Earlier in October, the federal cabinet had approved an increase in the price of electricity by Rs 1.68 per unit.
