QUETTA: A local journalist was killed on Sunday evening after being seriously wounded in a bomb explosion in Hub city of Balochistan.
According to details, unidentified men hurled a hand grenade at a vehicle in Hub area bordering Karachi. Two people were injured in the incident including a local television journalist.
The victim, identified as Shahid Zehri who was associated with a private channel, was initially taken to Hub Civil Hospital. He later died while being shifted to a hospital in Karachi for medical treatment.
Law enforcement authorities cordoned off the area and started collecting evidence for further analysis. CCTV footage of the incident shows an explosion on the roadside near Zehri’s car as it made a U-turn on a busy road.
Chief Minister Balochistan Jam Kamal Khan has strongly condemned the incident and directed the police to submit a report. Governor Balochistan Syed Zahoor Ahmed Agha also condemned the journalist’s killing and said the accused involved in the terrorist act would be brought to justice.

Balochistan Union of Journalists (BUJ) have also condemned the incident and demanded of the government to arrest the perpetrators. In a statement issued, the BUJ said the government has failed to protect the lives of journalists in Balochistan. The banned Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has reportedly claimed the responsibility for the attack.
In a separate incident, two children were killed on Sunday after a bomb exploded in Hoshab area of Balochistan’s Turbat district. The paramilitary Balochistan Levies said that some children were playing outside their houses in the area when the explosion occurred.
Three children sustained injuries due to the blast. They were rushed to a hospital but two of them succumbed to their injuries on the way. The area was been cordoned off by the Balochistan Levies and other law enforcement agencies (LEAs). No one has claimed responsibility for the blast, while an investigation is underway.
