ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that national wealth cannot be increased without providing facilities to industries.

Addressing the groundbreaking ceremony of Sialkot-Kharian Motorway, the prime minister said that the motorway is an important project. The country needs industries and without industries, the pace of development of the country remains slow, the premier maintained.

“We have to create facilities for small and medium enterprises,” he said. “Funds are used for roads, schools, and other development works, but the country’s wealth cannot be increased without providing facilities to industries,” he asserted.

The prime minister said that we can set up large-scale industries in the area and the motorway should have been built on the same route. 2.7 million vehicles passed through Swat Motorway during Eid. “We have to think about how we can get revenue from these motorways,” he added.

He said that the tourism sector in the country is huge and important while motorways would further boost the tourism sector. “To raise dollars, we need to focus on industry and tourism,” he said.

Talking further about the motorway, PM Imran Khan said that Chitral and Gilgit Motorway from Swat would prove to be the best project, he further added.

He said that Sialkot-Kharian Motorway is an important project and the importance of this area is high due to its large population. The prime minister maintained that the obstacles in the public-private partnership would be removed. “The country did not benefit much from the motorways built in the earlier periods,” he said.
