Imagine ‘Darr’, ‘Chak De! India’ and ‘Mohabbatein’ without Shah Rukh Khan. Yes, there are many notable movies of Bollywood starring SRK who surprisingly was not the first choice of the movie. Imagine how things had turned if the Pathaan actor was not part of such gem films at all.
Here are five notable movies which famous actors rejected and these movies eventually went to Shah Rukh Khan and became blockbusters.
1) Salman Khan
Salman Khan was first offered Shah Rukh Khan’s role of Kabir Khan in Chak De! India which he rejected because he had an issue with the climax of the movie. Arguably one of SRK’s best works to date, the film went on to him which made him win the National Film Award for Best Popular Film.
2) Aamir Khan
According to an Indian news portal, Mohabbatein was offered to Aamir Khan. The role eventually fell into Shah Rukh Khan’s lap, who starred in the blockbuster film alongside Amitabh Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
3) Saif Ali Khan
Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge was first offered to Saif Ali Khan offered to play Raj Malhotra. Reportedly, the actor rejected the role citing date issues. The role was given to Shah Rukh Khan later and the rest is history.
4) Anil Kapoor
Another blockbuster movie that became a turning point in Shah Rukh Khan’s career is Baazigar. However, SRK wasn’t the first choice for playing the classic anti-hero. Anil Kapoor was approached to play the titular role by Abbas-Mustan, but he rejected Baazigar after hearing that the character would be throwing his ladylove from the terrace.
5) Ajay Devgn
Shah Rukh Khan was not the first choice to play the iconic anti-hero Rahul Mehra in Darr. Turns out that Yash Chopra had first approached Aamir Khan for the role and after the actor refused, Ajay Devgn was also offered to play Mehra’s character. He, too, said no. And after ‘some other young heroes’ also rejected the role, it was SRK who eventually starred in Darr which catapulted him to superstardom.
