Tremors from an earthquake were felt in Zhob district, Balochistan, earlier today, causing alarm among residents. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reported the quake measured 4.0 on the Richter scale, with a depth of 33 kilometers, and the epicenter located 61 kilometers northwest of Zhob.
However, different seismic monitoring agencies reported varying details regarding the earthquake’s magnitude and epicenter. The National Seismic Monitoring Centre in Islamabad initially reported a stronger earthquake of magnitude 5.0, at a depth of 35 kilometers, with the epicenter 106 kilometers south of Zhob. Meanwhile, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) recorded the same magnitude but indicated a shallower depth of 10 kilometers, with the epicenter located 61 kilometers north of Kohlu District.
A second, smaller quake of magnitude 3.9 was recorded less than an hour later, with its epicenter located 79 kilometers south of Zhob at a depth of 151 kilometers.
Despite the discrepancies in the reports, the tremors caused significant alarm among the local population. Fortunately, there have been no immediate reports of casualties or major damage. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and have urged residents to stay alert for possible aftershocks.
