Malik Khuda Bakhsh, Convenor of the Energy Standing Committee of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), has announced plans to install 3,000 Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations across Pakistan in collaboration with a Chinese company.
The agreement, signed with the Chinese firm and the Government of Pakistan, will see the charging stations set up along the motorway from Peshawar to Karachi. This initiative is expected to attract approximately $350 million in foreign investment.
At a ceremony at the FPCCI head office in Karachi, Bakhsh shared that the initial investment for the project would be $90 million, with an additional $250 million to be invested in manufacturing by February 2025.
He highlighted that the establishment of these stations will reduce fuel imports, save foreign exchange reserves, and contribute to reducing environmental pollution. Bakhsh also mentioned the growing interest of Chinese investors in Pakistan’s energy sector, particularly in areas such as the Thar Coalfield and alternative energy.
The Sindh government has pledged full support to investors, offering assistance in documentation and land acquisition.
