At least 25 people were killed on Tuesday when a passenger bus collided head-on with a car on Karakoram highway near Kohistan Shatial Chowki in Gilgit-Baltistan’s Chilas city.
As per details, 45 passengers were aboard the bus when it collided with the car and tumbled into a gully close to Kohistan Shatial Chowki on the Karakoram Highway. At least 25 passengers died as a result of the incident.
Upon receiving the information, rescue teams and police reached the spot and shifted the injured and the bodies to a nearby hospital. The rescue teams were facing difficulties in rescue operations due to darkness.
The accident occurred when a bus travelling from GB’s Ghizer district to Rawalpindi collided with a car travelling in the opposite direction, according to Diamer SSP Sher Khan in Dawn.com.
“19 passengers travelling in the bus and five people in the car lost their lives,” he said, adding that the GB police were also taking part in the rescue operation.
He added that officials were collecting information on how many people were on board the bus as well as the number of people travelling in the car. “A search and rescue operation is currently under way.”
President Dr Arif Alvi and PM Shehbaz Sharif have condoled over the loss of life in a bus accident that took place in Diamer district of Gilgit Baltistan.
The president expressed grief over the deaths in the tragic incident and sympathized with the bereaved families.
He also prayed to Allah Almighty for peace of the departed souls and early recovery of the injured.
