MANSEHRA: At least 24 people, including women and children, were killed when a jeep carrying plunged into a stream after a bridge collapsed in the Kandia area of Upper Kohistan.
The incident occurred when the van, carrying 31 passengers, was en route to Kamila from Bari Gogan on Friday.
As many as eight bodies have been recovered so far while local sources said that the ill-fated van was going to Kamila from Bari Gogan while it carried more than 26 passengers while all the deceased stated to be belonging to the same family.
Local sources said that granddaughter of ex-member of parliament Maulana Abdul Hanan is also among the dead.
District Police Officer, (DPO) Kohistan, Raja Abdul Saboor said that about the incident that it has occurred in far-flung area mountain area due the collapsing of the bridge made up of wood adding that he received information of deaths through local sources.
In January, at least eight labourers were killed and several others went missing after a passenger van got buried by a landslide at Karakoram Highway in Kohistan district.
