Armed men robbed gold, silver and cash worth tens of millions of rupees in what described as Karachi’s biggest heist of the year, in the city’s Gadap Town area.
According to police, the incident took place in Ramzan Lassi Goth in Gadap Town. Eight armed suspects, travelling on four motorcycles, reportedly entered the property through the rear of the bungalow owned by citizen Dharam Das Kalparani.
The suspects first overpowered the security guard and obtained information about the family before entering the house, local media reported.
The robbers allegedly held women, children and other family members hostage and assaulted some of them when they offered resistance.
Police said the suspects searched every room before escaping with valuables. Initial reports suggest they made off with 150 tolas of gold, a large quantity of silver and Rs2.5 million in cash. The total value of the stolen property is estimated to be in the tens of millions of rupees.
Police have collected evidence from the scene and launched an investigation using CCTV footage, forensic evidence and other technical resources. Authorities said efforts are underway to identify and arrest those involved in the robbery.
