MULTAN: The electricity system in Multan has been severely disrupted as strong winds and heavy rain lashed the city, tripping 150 feeders of the Multan Electric Power Company and suspending power supply in several areas.
According to a MEPCO spokesperson, 13 feeders have broken down due to the rain. Operation teams have been immediately mobilized to restore them. The spokesperson said power supply is being restored in the affected areas in a phased manner.
Meanwhile, Rescue 1122 teams have been placed on high alert in view of the heavy rain, with rescue activities underway across different parts of the city. Rescue officials said many citizens and vehicles stranded in low-lying areas have been shifted to safe places.
WASA Multan has also imposed a rain emergency across the city and issued an alert. MD WASA Faisal Shaukat appealed to citizens to take precautionary measures. He advised the public to stay away from electricity poles and wires during rain, avoid going into accumulated water, and keep children safe by preventing them from playing in the rain.
Authorities said efforts are ongoing to restore services and minimize public risk as the monsoon spell continues to affect the region.
