The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Tuesday imposed a two-year ban on Zimbabwean cricketer Blessing Muzarabani for breaching his contract.
Muzarabani was initially set to represent Islamabad United in the 11th edition of the PSL but later withdrew after securing a lucrative deal in the Indian Premier League with Kolkata Knight Riders.
The PCB stressed that professional cricket relies on trust and firm agreements between parties. In this case, despite a clear offer and the player’s acceptance of key terms, he chose to disregard his commitment in favor of another opportunity.
The board highlighted that once essential terms, such as payment and contract structure, are agreed upon in writing, they constitute a binding agreement. Backing out without valid justification violates contractual obligations and undermines the principles of good faith that guide professional sport globally.
Addressing the sanctions, the PSL reiterated that the league’s integrity depends on ethical and consistent conduct from all involved.
It described the penalty as necessary to protect the league’s professional standards and ensure respect for contractual commitments.
