Former U.S. Ambassador to Afghanistan, Zalmay Khalilzad, has once again voiced his support for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest today, calling for the release of Imran Khan. He urged the Pakistani government to listen to the call for justice and free the former Prime Minister.
In a message on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), Khalilzad wrote: “Tomorrow, November 24th, the eyes of the world should focus on #Pakistan. I hope the demonstrations for freedom, justice, and the release of Imran Khan are peaceful and successful. The Pakistani establishment must respect the rights of citizens to demonstrate and march peacefully. It needs to hear the clear and loud call for justice and free Imran Khan.”

This is not the first time Khalilzad has raised his voice for Imran Khan’s release. Earlier this month, following Donald Trump’s victory in the U.S. presidential election, Khalilzad called on Pakistan’s military leadership to justify the ongoing detention of Imran Khan.
In a post on X on Thursday, November 7, Khalilzad questioned Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, General Asim Munir, urging the release of Khan and others detained without fair judicial proceedings. His comments sparked renewed debate over the treatment of political figures in Pakistan.
Khalilzad stated, “With Trump’s victory in the #USA election, how would General Asim Munir explain the ongoing unjustified imprisonment of his friend Imran Khan?” He added, “It is time to release Imran Khan and others who are being held without a fair judicial process.”
Khalilzad’s comments come at a time of heightened political tensions in Pakistan, where former Prime Minister Imran Khan remains incarcerated. His post highlights concerns over the lack of a transparent judicial process and advocates for Khan’s immediate release.
